In 2020, the Critical Edition of Hannah Arendt's Complete Works was accepted for long-term funding by the German Research Foundation (DFG). From November 2023, Arendt's texts will also be available digitally—with the launch of the web portal of the edition. For the first time, Arendt's texts will here be accessible in their entirety, in scientifically validated versions and including thousands of unpublished pages from her estate; starting with Arendt's early work Rahel Varnhagen. Lebensgeschichte einer deutschen Jüdin / The Life of a Jewish Woman, the collection Sechs Essays / Die verborgene Tradition, and Arendt's unfinished project The Modern Challenge to Tradition.

In addition, numerous typescripts and supplementary documents will be freely accessible via the web portal; just like the printed texts in different versions including facsimiles, comprehensively annotated, enriched with metadata and in all variants—a treasure chest for all Arendt researchers and those interested in taking a look at the genesis of her texts and the entire diversity of her work.

The portal, its functions and the embedded tools will be presented by Ingo Kieslich (FU Berlin) and Fabian Etling (CeDiS, FU Berlin). After a welcoming address by Bart Soethaert, moderator of Research Area 5 "Building Digital Communities" of the Cluster of Excellence 2020 "Temporal Communities", Anne Eusterschulte (FU Berlin) and Thomas Wild (Bard College, New York) will give an introduction to the overall project.

The presentation will be in German, the web portal is bilingual. Registration is requested by Nov 08, 2023.
